The Richard L. Bean Juvenile Service Center serves as a temporary holding facility for children age 12-18 charged with criminal acts.  The Center serves a 16 county district and is managed by a Board of Trustees.  It is certified by the State Department of Children's Services.

The facility was recently remodeled and opened in 2001 after a $13 million facelift.  It is widely recognized as a national model for detention centers of its type.
